Reigning champions yet again defend title at Unicorn Children’s Foundations’ Celebrity Bartending Battle!

Boca Raton FL – September 16th, 2016 – Unicorn Children’s Foundation is pleased to announce that our 3nd Annual Bartender’s Battle was a smash hit!  Building on the excitement of the past year, this year saw not only an increase in attendance and awareness, but also a significant increase in proceeds.  Overall, Unicorn collected nearly $40,000 to help kids with special needs excel in the community!

Reigning champions Bill Kruegel (Sunshine Health) and Sarah Hassan (IM HealthScience) managed to defend their title and keep the coveted first place trophy.  Felette Branch (Gucci) and Heather Shaw (Saks Fifth Avenue), Gregory Fried (Gregory’s Fine Jewelry) and Marcie Butters (Butters Construction), and Kendra Erika (Singer/Songwriter) and Julissa Caballero (Toshiba Business Solutions) all put forth a valiant effort, and despite not claiming victory, still are winners in their support of neurodiversity.  Everyone here at the Unicorn Children’s Foundation extend not only our congratulations, but also our heartfelt gratitude to all the bartenders for their participation and support.

As always, the Event Center at Farmers Table was a perfect venue for this event.  They provided amazing hors d’oeuvres, fantastic room layout that this year included nice comfy couches, and staff that were not only professional, but very effective and timely in their service and help.  The entire team went above and beyond all expectations, and amazingly they completely sponsored and underwrote the event, including the space, food AND beverages.  We here at Unicorn feel very fortunate to have their support, and extend a huge shout out to Joey Giannuzzi and the rest of his team for everything they do for us!  We would also like to thank our other sponsors, organizations, and people whom contributed to the overall success of this event; Sunshine Health, Simply the Best Magazine, Eye on South Florida, iRemember Box, The Happy Printer and our wonderful Volunteers.

Finally, a big THANK YOU to the cross-section of South Florida’s community leaders, business professionals, philanthropists, and attendees who participated in and supported this event, and who helped make it a success!  We could not do what we do without your support.

Don’t miss Unicorn’s next event, and first ever, Evening at The Birdcage – A cabaret inspired dinner and show, including special Diva appearances by some of your favorite Unicorn and non-Unicorn faces.  Join us for this tribute to Dragging Out Acceptance at LIPS Restaurant on November 20th!  Please visit our webpage atwww.UnicornChildrensFoundation.org/event/birdcage for tickets and/or to vote for your favorite Diva – $100 for 2 drinks, dinner and show or $125 for VIP champagne reception, 2 drinks, dinner and show. Votes are $10 each.

Millions Headed To States For Special Ed Training

The U.S. Department of Education is shelling out millions in funding to help recruit and train teachers and administrators serving children with disabilities.
The federal agency said this week that it’s sending $7 million to seven states to enhance preparation and professional development focused on early intervention, special education and transition services.
Grants ranging from about $530,000 to nearly $1.5 million are headed to state education departments in Colorado, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Jersey, North Carolina and Oregon.
The funding will help support a variety of projects, the Education Department said, including recruiting and retaining special education teachers and training on ways to help students with disabilities access the general education curriculum.
In order to qualify for the funding, federal officials said that states must partner with a college or university, at least one school district and a parent training or resource center in order to implement their professional development program.
“It is critical that we support our nation’s educators and elevate the teaching profession by supporting strong teacher and principal preparation and professional development,” U.S. Secretary of Education John King said in announcing the funds. “These awards help educators learn practices that will improve outcomes for all children, including children with disabilities.”
